What does the venue of AI mean for managers in their decision making, in the optimization of their business, in managing innovation and, at the same time, caring about sustainability? Eunika Mercier-Laurent will give a short introduction of various AI approaches and techniques and their expected benefits.
With autonomous and intelligent systems playing an increasing role even in our daily lives, more and more attention also needs to be paid to the ethical questions these revolutionary technologies raise. The contribution of Clara Neppel to the discussion will focus on how to ensure that every stakeholder involved in the design, development and usage of AI systems is educated, trained and empowered to prioritize ethical considerations so that these technologies are advanced for the benefit of humanity.

Dr. Clara Neppel is the Senior Director of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) European office in Vienna, The scope of competences of IEEE is in electric and electronic engineering, telecommunications, computer engineering and allied disciplines - except on legal business documents. IEEE is the world's largest association of technical professionals with more than 423,000 members in over 160 countries around the world. Dr. Neppel is responsible for the growth of IEEE’s operations and presence in Europe, focusing on the needs of industry, academia, and government. She serves as a point of contact for initiatives with regard to technology, engineering and related public policy issues that help implementing IEEE’s continued global commitment to fostering technological innovation for the benefit of humanity. She contributed as a speaker to several events at the European Commission and Parliament on subjects as are AI, Blockchain and the “Internet of Things”.
Dr. Neppel holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Technical University of Munich and a Master in Intellectual Property Law and Management from the University of Strasbourg.
Dr. Eunika Mercier-Laurent by education is an electronics engineer and holds a PhD in computer science. She serves as an expert in artificial intelligence and as associate researcher with the University Jean Moulin Lyon 3 and the University of Reims Champagne Ardennes, as well as Professor of Knowledge & Innovation Management at EPITA Graduate School of Computer Science in Paris.
She founded the “Global Innovation Strategies” network devoted to various aspects of innovation supported by AI. Her research topics amongst many are: Knowledge and Eco-innovation Management Systems, methods and techniques for innovation, knowledge modelling and processing, complex problem solving, sustainability and eco-design and impacts of AI.
As one of 100 world experts of Entovation International, she today serves as President of Innovation3D and of the International Association for Global Innovation and as well acts as Chair of IFIP’s TC12 “Artificial Intelligence”. She serves as an expert for diverse EU programs. Eunika Mercier-Laurent is author of more than hundred publications and several books.
